The customer was achieving 3 to 3.5 months of wear life with a competitor’s round wire self-cleaning option. While the panels were adequate, they wanted to explore whether a better solution was possible as part of an ongoing improvement initiative. Having heard positive feedback about PFX™HT in the field, they were interested in testing how the panels would perform in their application.
Being a top deck, which receives more large material and tonnage than the rest of the machine, we opted to use the heaviest PFX™HT possible in a 1-1/8" opening to help increase durability. This also contributed to increased throughput due to the wire’s shape compared to a round wire.
The customer is now achieving an average wear life of 7 months, while also unintentionally resolving an issue on the middle deck. Due to the increased throughput on the top deck, the middle deck receives more material and remains much cleaner than before. This results in less carryover and greater efficiency throughout the entire secondary system.
