VisionWorks, a Buffalo Wire Works spin-off, introduces an automatic Particle Size Distribution Analyzer (PSDA) system. Buffalo Wire Works and Clarkson University’s Center for Advanced Materials Processing (CAMP) developed this technology under the guidance of Dr. Dayakar Penumadu.* Today, VisionWorks has advanced the technology to the commercial level. This new optical imaging technology is designed to help industries (e.g. abrasives, construction materials, fertilizer production, food processing, plastics, pharmaceuticals and sand) measure the size and shape of their particles in order to increase manufacturing process yields and reduce the amount of energy-intensive reprocessing.

This technology was developed with funding from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), New York State Office for Science, Technology & Academic Research (NYSTAR), and VisionWorks.

VisionWorks has developed this rugged all-in-one unit to be used in industrial environments such as in-process laboratories and manufacturing environments. Our VisionSizer series has combined academic research, commercial design savvy, and industry knowledge to create a user-friendly, technologically advanced particle analysis system. This series measures cohesion-less granular particles having diameters ranging from 25 microns to 60 mm. Several models within this series will cover the range.

* Dr. Dayakar Penumadu is presently an Associate Professor at University of Tennessee-Knoxville
