Buffalo Companies Helping
Each Other
Three Buffalo based companies, Allgaier Construction,
E B Atlas Steel Corp. and Buffalo Wire Works Co., Inc.
have teamed up to help make new renovations at the Buffalo
Zoo. Buffalo Wire Works has been manufacturing wire
cloth products and screening material in Buffalo since
1896. Buffalo Wire Works mesh products are primarily
used in aggregate-mining screening and sizing operations,
however they are also used for guarding and architectural
applications.
The Buffalo Zoo uses wire cloth, subcontracted and installed
by E B Atlas Steel, in various locations throughout
the Zoo. EcoStation, the newest exhibit at the Zoo,
uses wire cloth in its keeper holding areas. The EcoStation
will be home to the new South American rainforest, Australian
scrub forest, and American Southwest desert exhibits.
The wire cloth encloses the containment where veterinarian
care and husbandry take place.
E B Atlas Steel, a local fabricating and structural
steel company, has been working with the Zoo for over
five years. They were subcontracted by Allgaier Construction
to install the containment area. E B Atlas Steel is
famed for their creation and installation of the loading
station for the Superman roller coaster at Six Flags,
Darien Lakes. Installation for the Ecostation was complete
on May 9, 2003.
The
Zoo’s new exhibits are designed to replicate the
animal’s true habitat. This allows the animals
to better express their natural behavior in a controlled
environment. The EcoStation will be officially open
later this season. Together E B Atlas Steel and Buffalo
Wire Works have completed several projects for the Zoo,
including the containment area for the Vanishing Animals.
